Lilburndale: the perfect place for a wedding. Here's why.
I've DJed and MCed more than three weddings at Lilburndale now, and I'll say it straight: it's one of my favourite venues in NSW. If you're weighing it up, this is what it's like from behind the decks.
Where it is
Lilburndale sits on a 1,100-acre property at Sackville in the Hawkesbury, about an hour and fifteen minutes from Sydney. Historic pastoral buildings, open paddocks and nothing but countryside around you. Your guests arrive and immediately switch off from the city.
The ambiance
This is what sets Lilburndale apart. Your ceremony happens at Lilburndale House, a historic sandstone homestead, and it feels like stepping back in time. Then everyone moves into the Packing Shed for the reception: polished concrete floors, black steel, timber and restored antique citrus farming machinery. It's rustic and it's stylish, and it looks incredible once the lights come up.
The dance floor
The Packing Shed takes up to 110 guests for a sit-down dinner, or 120 for a cocktail-style wedding, and still leaves proper room for a dance floor. That matters more than people think. A dance floor that's squeezed into a corner never fills up. At Lilburndale, it's front and centre, and it's air conditioned and heated, so nobody is sweating through a January night or shivering through a July one.
The staff and the food
Honestly, the team at Lilburndale are some of the best I work with. They're organised, they're friendly, and they care about getting your day right. That makes my job as MC so much easier, because when the venue and I are on the same page, the run sheet flows and your night never drags.
And the food? Your guests will be talking about it for weeks. Good food means happy, relaxed guests, and happy guests dance.
My tips for a Lilburndale wedding
Plan your timeline with travel in mind. Most of your guests are driving from Sydney, so allow for arrivals and think about buses or shuttles for the end of the night.
Make the most of the move from homestead to Packing Shed. Canap茅s, cocktail music and golden hour photos can all happen in that window, and it's one of the best parts of the day.
Book early. Venues like Lilburndale lock in their Saturdays well ahead, and so do I.
