Wedding DJ at The Cove Jervis Bay — DJ Joe Barrs
The Cove Jervis Bay is one of those venues I keep coming back to — and for good reason.
I’ve played multiple weddings here and every single one has been a brilliant night. The setting does something to people. You’re surrounded by bushland, right on the water, completely removed from the city. Guests arrive already relaxed and in the mood to celebrate. As a DJ, that’s the best possible starting point.
What I’ve learned playing there
The Cove is a destination wedding. That means your guests have travelled, they’re staying on site or nearby, and they’re fully committed to the night. In my experience that translates to dancefloors that go hard and stay hard. I’ve had some of my best late-night sets at this venue.
The outdoor ceremony space is stunning and I’ve handled ceremony audio here too — wireless lapel mic for the celebrant, live music or curated ceremony playlist, the works. If you’re doing ceremony and reception, having one operator across both just makes the day smoother.
Logistics-wise, plan your load-in carefully. It’s a beautiful but somewhat remote location so I arrive early, get set up well ahead of guests, and make sure everything is tested before anyone walks through the door.
Music considerations
Jervis Bay crowds tend to be relaxed, fun and up for a big night. The remoteness of the venue means nobody’s leaving early to catch a train. I lean into that — building from chilled dinner vibes through to a full send by 9pm. Some of my favourite crowd moments have happened at The Cove.
Getting there
The Cove is approximately 2.5 hours south of Sydney CBD. Travel costs apply at $2/km return beyond 25km from the CBD. Worth building into your budget early — it’s absolutely worth it for a venue this good.
