Wedding DJ at White Barn Pokolbin — DJ Joe Barrs
White Barn Pokolbin is the kind of venue that makes couples fall in love with the Hunter Valley all over again.
Rustic timber, high ceilings, fairy lights, vineyard views. It ticks every box for couples who want that relaxed, romantic country feel without sacrificing style. I played Ryan and Rhianna’s wedding here and it’s one of those gigs that stays with you.
What I’ve learned playing there
The barn aesthetic calls for a particular kind of energy. You want warmth in the room before you go anywhere near a dancefloor anthem. I spend more time on the dinner set at a venue like White Barn than almost anywhere else — building the mood slowly, letting the room settle into the night before the dancing starts.
Load-in is straightforward and the team there are easy to work with. That said, it’s a destination venue so everything needs to be planned tighter than a Sydney gig. Sound check, timeline, meal timings — I lock all of that in well ahead of the day.
Music considerations
Hunter Valley couples tend to skew relaxed and social. They’re not chasing a nightclub — they want a brilliant party with their favourite people in a beautiful setting. I lean into crowd-reading here more than anywhere. The best Hunter Valley receptions I’ve played have built naturally from dinner conversation to a genuinely loose dancefloor by 10pm.
Getting there
White Barn is in Pokolbin, roughly 2.5 hours from Sydney CBD. My travel rate applies beyond 25km from the CBD at $2/km return, so factor that into your budget conversation early. I’m also happy to discuss accommodation arrangements for late-finish events.
